Know Your Types Of Leather

For those of you who are completely new to the world of leather, here’s a quick breakdown of the three main types of leather available:

Stressless Noblesse Leather

  1. Semi-Aniline Leather also has a natural look but is more durable than aniline leather. Semi-aniline has a medium surface coating which includes a small amount of pigment that provides protection from fading and staining.

  1. Aniline Leather is the most natural looking leather. Those who buy furniture made out of this type of leather should be aware that each piece is unique as the hides’ natural markings are visible. Aniline is the softest leather but most expensive and most susceptible to damage (from fading, soiling, staining, scratches, and spillage).

  1. Pigmented Leather has more surface coating and pigment, making this type of leather low-maintenance and most resistance to damage. As far as texture goes, pigmented leather is a little bit stiffer than the other types of leather, but it is also less expensive.

Lifestyle

Now that you have a brief overview of each leather, you need to pick which type best suits your lifestyle. Do you have young kids? Pets? Frequently have visitors over? If your family is on the rowdy side, perhaps a pigmented or semi-aniline leather couch would best suit your needs. Have your kids left for college and have pets that are well-trained? Treat yourself to a soft aniline leather sofa. Whatever your lifestyle is and whatever your family’s habits are, know that all leather furniture is very durable and will provide comfort to the whole family, actually becoming more comfortable as time goes on.
